November update + more stickers
I’m thrilled to say that as of 11/15, the quilt has 120 block submissions! As the submission deadline approached I was hoping to get 100 blocks, but now that’s being blown out of the water. At this point, it’s looking like the quilt will be 10’x12’ - in other words, getting almost too big to handle. But it’s a good problem to have! At least for now, I feel committed to making just one quilt so all the blocks can be together.
In September, I started making stickers to fundraise for the quilt. Thank you so much to everyone who ordered them - the money raised allowed me to pay for the PO Box when I extended the deadline to 10/31, get started on a new collaboration documenting the project that I can’t wait to share with you soon, facilitate people hosting block-making workshops in their own communities, and more. I’m continuing to fundraise to pay for materials to finish the quilt, as well as to save up for the quilting bee trip I’m hoping to do.
I posted about this on Instagram so maybe you’ve seen them already, but I made a second set of sticker designs! Just like the first ones, these stickers are all traditional quilt block patterns with names that feel queer: Prairie Queen (top left in the picture below), “Best Friends” (top right), and Odd Fellow’s Chain (which has two color options, on the bottom). The original designs (Swamp Angel, Contrary Wife, Flying Geese, and Gentleman’s Fancy) are also still available to order, or you can get a set of all seven of them! Orders can be placed here. If you want to send a set to a friend I’m happy to include a gift message, just write it in the address field on the order form.
That’s all I have for now - a short update today. Thank you always for your support!
With love,
Eliot
