The graphic above is meant to serve as short and sweet instructions to block submission guidelines. Please do share with your trans and queer quilt friends, or any of your networks where trans and queer folks who are interested may see it!
Some expanded notes on submission guidelines:
While this project aims to center trans, nonbinary, intersex, and gnc people, any LGBTQIA2S+ person is encouraged to consider the ways that to be queer is to be gender-expansive and to send a block as well. If you identify with the prompt, you belong here; if you are questioning your gender or sexuality, you belong here. If you are straight, cisgender, and want to support the project, you can do so at this time by sharing it with your trans and queer friends (or by helping a young person make their own block, see next).
If there are kiddos in your life who connect to the prompt please encourage them to make or design a block and collaborate with them as necessary to bring it to life!
Block submissions are not limited to US residents, you are welcome to send one from anywhere.
Quilt blocks can be many things! Instead of or alongside sewing you are welcome to make use of fabric paint, dye, printing, anything as long as it can be machine washed. The rule about washability is in place because the finished product is intended to be a fully functional quilt.
If you send in a block please include a contact email so we can be in touch about where the project goes. There is not an established plan for the finished quilt (yet!) but I’m dreaming big and hoping that it will be displayed somewhere. As collaborators I want to be able to be in touch about that! you will also receive a questionnaire after we get your block that asks about your process and your block.
If shipping a block is cost-prohibitive for you for any reason, please fill out this form for reimbursement.
Please send blocks by August 31st. A longer submission period may be considered depending on how many we get. Thank you!
